Concerts Celebrating the 170th Anniversary of Otakar Ševčík's Birth

In honor of the upcoming Otakar Ševčík jubilee, the Ševčík Academy will be playing a series of three concerts: March 19 in Prague, March 20 in Klatovy, and March 21 in Horažďovice, Otakar Ševčík's birthplace. The Academy is bringing the concerts into the virtual space as well: on March 22 the jubilee concert from Horažďovice will be streamed online. The performers in the concert will be teachers and students of the Ševčík Academy.

The teachers performing at the concerts will be violinist Jan Fišer, Concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic, and cellist Tomáš Jamník, Artistic Director of the Ševčík Academy. The following Ševčík Academy students will perform with them: violinist Eliška Kukalová, a successful student of the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, who the year before last debuted at the Dvořákova Praha International Music Festival under the patronage of Václav Hudeček; the talented eighteen-year-old Matteo Hager who was recently accepted as a student of the London College of Music; fifteen-year-old Boha Moon, a student of Josef Špaček and a laureate of last year's Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists; and cellist Vilém Vlček, a student of the Musik-Akademie in Basel, Switzerland and fresh winner of major competitions in Prague and Lucerne.

The online stream of the jubilee concert can be watched on March 22 starting at 7:00 p.m. CET either on Facebook or here on our website.

Apply for the Ševčík Academy 2022

It is now possible to submit applications for participation in this year's Ševčík Academy! Once again this year, you can look forward to great teachers (take a look at our whole team), online lessons from Noah Bendix-Balgley and Richard Aaron, and a string orchestra under the baton of conductor Jakub Hrůša. New this year will be a small (and, we trust, friendly) competition for a solo performance with the orchestra, and other special prizes. As usual, there will be a rich accompanying program - seminars, lectures, an exhibition, chamber music coached by the teachers, excellent food at the Hotel Prácheň, and our popular outdoor sports matches. Students, check it out - we look forward to seeing you there!

Watch our YouTube Channel to Stay in the Picture

Perhaps you missed our YouTube channel, which contains recordings of Ševčík Festival concerts, Ševčík Academy promotional videos, and other interesting content. The channel is entirely the work of Jakub Mayer (czellor films), who himself appears - playing the cello - in several of the videos. Many thanks to Jakub for all his hard work!
